The Exemption constitutes a simplified licensing regime for smaller-scale electricity generation stations using Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
Scope
The exemption applies to the construction and operation of electricity generation stations using any RES technology, with an installed capacity from 50 kW up to and including 8 MW.
Excluded from this regime is electricity generation from photovoltaic systems installed on the shell of an existing building, for which a General Licence is granted.
Submission of Application
Applications are submitted exclusively through
CERA’s Electronic Application Submission Portal.
Examination Procedure and Grant of Exemption
The procedure is governed by the Electricity Market Regulation Law and the Electricity Market Regulation (Issuance of Licences) Regulations. Detailed information on the steps for submission, examination and grant of the exemption is provided in the Frequently Asked Questions.

Application Fee
The application fee is paid through the Portal upon submission. The date of registration of the application in CERA’s register and the assignment of a serial number are determined by the date of payment, in accordance with the Electricity Market Regulation (Licence Fees) Regulations.
Annual Fees
Annual fees are paid each year for the maintenance of the licence in force.
